Section 35 - 37 year old Sidney Rigdon- Dec. 1830
Born Feb.
19, 1793 in Saint Claire, Pa.    Age 25
joined a Baptist Church and became a minister. Became convinced that many
doctrines were not scriptural. Left ministry. Entered tanning business.              Met Alexander Campbell, Walter
Scott and started Campbellite movement. He had 22 congregations under him.               Fall of 1830 received the Book of
Mormon and was baptized. With Edward Partridge went to Fayette and met Joseph.
Section 36 - See Ensign June
1979,  “Steadfastness and Patient Endurance”: The
Legacy of Edward Partridge -
Section 37 - Last Revelation of 1830 -A command to gather to
Ohio.
Section 38 - - Jan. 2- Fayette - Conference
              Joseph had received the remainder
of the Book of Moses in Dec. 1830, including most of the story of Enoch (Moses
6&7-  Ch. 8=Noah came in Feb. 1831)
This chapter is an extension of Moses 6&7.
The Law of
Consecration begins here and includes parts of sections 38, 42, 51, 78, 82
& 104.
Vs. 4 - We
learn 18 times more about Enoch from Joseph than from the Bible.  Enoch was the first gatherer.
Vs. 5 - The
residue referred to are those not take with Enoch who became Flood victims.
Vs. 9 -
Things are not going really well but the Lord promises that the enemy shall not
overcome.
Vs. 24 &
25
Vs. 30 -
Prepared = No fear
Vs. 39 - a
promise and a warning
Vs. 42 - Be ye clean that bear the vessels of
the Lord. The phrase comes from Is. 52:11 and was directed to those who held
the priesthood and thus had the responsibility to tend the sacred vessels of
the temple. In order to perform their temple duties, the priests cleansed
themselves in a 3 part ritual. They were washed, anointed, and then clothed in
the garment of the priesthood (Lev. 8). The symbolism of this ritual is
instructive. Priesthood holders must first be clean to act in the name of the
Lord. Those who are clean can be anointed with oil, which symbolizes the
outpouring of the Spirit. When they possess the Spirit, they can then be
clothed in the garment of the priesthood, which represents the power and
authority of God. This text seems particularly appropriate in the context of
the endowment that had been promised the Saints in vs. 8. (Revelations of the
Restoration p. 289)
Section 39 & 40 -Fayette to James Covill- The first
revelation given to Sidney- a former Baptist minister.
